Battery
SOH
State of Health
Battery health status indicator expressed as a percentage. An SOH of 100% indicates the battery maintains its original capacity, while lower values indicate degradation.
An Atto 3 with 50,000 km may have an SOH of 98%, meaning it retains 98% of its original 60.48 kWh capacity.
Battery
SOC
State of Charge
Current battery charge level expressed as a percentage. It's the equivalent of the fuel gauge in a conventional vehicle.
If the car shows 80% SOC, it means the battery is charged to 80% of its total capacity.
Battery
LFP
Lithium Iron Phosphate
Lithium iron phosphate battery type (LiFePO₄). Safer, more durable and with greater tolerance to 100% charges than NMC batteries, but with lower energy density.
The Atto 3's Blade Battery is LFP, so BYD recommends charging it to 100% regularly to calibrate the BMS.
Battery
BMS
Battery Management System
Battery management system that monitors and controls charging, discharging, temperature and cell balancing to maximize lifespan and safety.
The Atto 3's BMS can limit charging power if it detects extreme temperatures to protect the battery.
Battery
kWh
Kilowatt-hour
Energy unit that measures battery capacity. Equals 1000 watts consumed for one hour.
The Atto 3 has a 60.48 kWh gross battery (approx. 58.5 kWh usable).
Battery
Delta Voltage
Voltage Delta
Difference between the voltage of the most charged cell and the least charged cell in the battery. A high delta indicates imbalance.
A delta of 30 mV is normal, but values above 100 mV may require balancing through 100% charging.
Battery
Blade Battery
BYD Blade Battery
BYD's patented technology that uses LFP cells in "blade" format to maximize space and improve structural safety.
The Blade Battery passed the nail penetration test without catching fire, demonstrating its superior safety.
Battery
Degradation
Battery Degradation
Gradual loss of battery capacity over time and charge cycles. Measured by SOH.
Typical degradation is 2-3% in the first 50,000 km, stabilizing afterwards.
Charging
AC
Alternating Current
Alternating Current. Slow/medium charging type that uses the vehicle's internal charger (OBC). Typically 3.7 kW to 11 kW.
Charging at home with a 7.4 kW wallbox is AC charging. The Atto 3 takes about 8 hours to charge from 0 to 100%.
Charging
DC
Direct Current
Direct Current. Fast charging that injects energy directly into the battery without going through the OBC. Powers from 50 kW to 350 kW.
On a 110 kW DC charger, the Atto 3 can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes (2023-2024 versions limited to 88 kW).
Charging
OBC
On-Board Charger
On-board charger that converts alternating current (AC) from the grid into direct current (DC) to charge the battery.
The Atto 3's OBC is 7 kW, limiting AC charging speed even if the wallbox offers more power.
Charging
CCS
Combined Charging System
Combined Charging System standard connector for DC fast charging used in Europe. Combines AC and DC pins in a single connector.
The Atto 3 uses a CCS2 (Combo 2) connector for DC fast charging.
Charging
V2L
Vehicle-to-Load
Function that allows using the vehicle's battery to power external devices through a special adapter.
With the Atto 3's V2L adapter you can power a portable fridge, power tools or even charge another electric vehicle.
Charging
Preconditioning
Battery Preconditioning
Process of heating or cooling the battery before fast charging to optimize speed and protect cells.
In winter, the BMS can preheat the battery automatically if it detects you're heading to a fast charger.
Charging
Phantom Drain
Vampire Drain
Battery charge loss when the vehicle is parked and off, due to systems that remain active.
The Atto 3 can lose between 0.5-1% battery per day parked, depending on temperature and active systems.
Driving
WLTP
Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure
European homologation protocol that measures consumption and range under laboratory conditions. Real values are usually lower.
The Atto 3 is rated at 420 km WLTP, but on the highway at 120 km/h the real range can be about 300 km.
Driving
Regeneration
Regenerative Braking
System that recovers kinetic energy when braking or decelerating, converting it into electricity to recharge the battery.
In "High" regeneration mode, the Atto 3 can recover up to 20% of energy in urban driving.
Driving
One-Pedal
One-Pedal Driving
Driving mode where releasing the accelerator causes the car to brake intensely through regeneration, allowing driving almost without using the brake pedal.
Activating "High" regeneration in the Atto 3, you can drive in the city using only the accelerator.
Driving
kWh/100km
Energy Consumption
Unit that measures the vehicle's energy efficiency. Equivalent to liters/100km in combustion cars.
A consumption of 15 kWh/100km in the Atto 3 is typical in the city, while on the highway it can rise to 20-22 kWh/100km.
Driving
ECO Mode
ECO Driving Mode
Mode that limits engine power and optimizes climate control to maximize range.
In ECO mode, the Atto 3 limits maximum speed to 100 km/h and reduces accelerator response.
Driving
Sport Mode
Sport Driving Mode
Mode that maximizes accelerator response and available power, sacrificing efficiency.
In Sport mode, the Atto 3 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, but consumption can increase 15-20%.
Technical
OBDII
On-Board Diagnostics II
Standard diagnostic port that allows reading vehicle data through a compatible scanner.
With a Bluetooth OBDII reader you can see SOH, cell voltages, battery temperature and error codes of the Atto 3.
Technical
OTA
Over-The-Air
Vehicle software update performed remotely via mobile connection, without needing to go to the workshop.
BYD can send OTA updates to improve the BMS, add features or fix software bugs.
Technical
TPMS
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Tire pressure monitoring system that alerts if any wheel has incorrect pressure.
The Atto 3's TPMS shows the pressure of each wheel in real time on the central screen.
Technical
ADAS
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
Set of driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, etc.
The Atto 3 includes level 2 ADAS with adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist.
Technical
VIN
Vehicle Identification Number
Unique 17-character chassis number that identifies the vehicle and contains information about manufacturing and specifications.
The Atto 3's VIN starts with LGXCE (LG=China, X=BYD, CE=Atto 3) followed by digits indicating year and serial number.
Regulations
ITC-BT-52
Spanish Low Voltage Regulation
Spanish regulation governing electrical installations in garages, including charging points for electric vehicles.
To install a 7.4 kW wallbox 30 meters from the panel, ITC-BT-52 requires 6mm² section cable.
Regulations
