V2L port diagnosis

Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology turns your BYD Atto 3 into a high-capacity mobile alternating current generator. Using an official adapter on the external Type 2 charging port, you can plug in any conventional device:

How does it work physically?

The Atto 3 bidirectional traction inverter takes direct current (DC) from the Blade Battery at high voltage and transforms it into single-phase alternating current (AC) at 230V and 50Hz, with a maximum continuous output power of 3.3 kW (3300 watts or 15 amps).

BMS Safe Discharge Limit

To protect you from being stranded in the wilderness without autonomy, BYD's software allows you to set a discharge limit (usually selectable in the center display menu between 20% and 80% SoC). Once that percentage of cells is reached, the port power stops automatically.

Conversion losses and inefficiency

To keep the V2L discharge active, the car's power electronics and central computer must remain awake at all times. This internal consumption of the vehicle is approximately 200W to 250W fixed. Therefore, it is physically more efficient to power high consumption for less time than microscopic consumption (such as individual light bulbs) for entire days.

Tips for taking care of the system

Avoid connecting appliances with very severe inductive motor starting peaks (such as industrial air compressors or old water pumps) that momentarily exceed 4 kW. Always use approved cables with adequate copper section to avoid overheating.
